Initially conceived almost ten years ago, 2016 will see the release of a new and improved Stalheim Stool.

Following thorough design and testing, the new stool boasts greater strength and stability whilst retaining it’s elegant, scandinavian roots.

This week saw us welcome the newest (and oldest) piece of machinery to our South Devon workshop. Originally produced in 1949, this Wadkin RS lathe weighs in excess of 600kg. Now in it’s new home, we can’t wait to give it some TLC and put it straight to work.

Cabinet maker required

We are looking for an experienced cabinet maker to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will posses the following attributes:

• 5 + years cabinet making experience in a professional workshop
• Site fitting experience
• Excellent hand and machine skills
• Considerable knowledge of solid wood and veneered construction
• Some experience in modern and traditional polishing techniques
• A positive attitude to problem solving
• Good time management and time recording
• Familiarity with CAD production drawings
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Traditional craftsmanship

We’re coming to the end of making an elegant console table for a large country house, built during Queen Anne’s reign.

The hand made dovetailed drawer in locally sourced holly will be opened via a contemporary recessed handle, shaped to a traditional period design.  Studio shots to follow soon…

Historical reference

27th March 2015

Design drawings are taking shape for a new oak panelled music room in a carefully restored 17th Century property.

Historical references include hand carved detailing, traditionally proportioned panels and mouldings, and a four-centred arch to the stone fireplace.

Research and development

10th February 2015

We’re in the thick of producing samples for a kitchen design with period features.  We designed the cornice in the photos using references from Georgian mouldings and historical images.

Freshly cast polished concrete tops to our lacquered white sideboard also act as a hearth for a Stǔv wood burner.

Carved and sculpted

After many hours of cutting compound angles and joints to create a faceted form, carving this oak pedestal base for a breakfast table has begun.

Sand cast bronze

Inspired by our HM and Harrison Tables, we’ve been working on an elliptical dining table incorporating laminated oak rails, shaped legs and an amazing cast bronze underframe weighing 55kg!

Dinner for 18

30th October 2014

Today we delivered this extraordinarily large oak table measuring over 4 metres long.  It will seat 18 diners, and required the assistance of a JCB and 8 people to lift into place.

Curved Bench 2 years on…

21st October 2014

We made this Curved Bench to catch the morning sun in an Easterly facing town house garden.  The bench has weathered to a silver grey, and sits alongside a 100 year old gnarled wisteria.
